EPSO hosts detention officers from US, Brazil for Special Response Training
Detention Officers from around the nation, including some international ones, are attending the Special Response Team (SRT) School hosted by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Department this week.
From March 14-18, EPSO will provide training to U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agents, Arizona Department of Corrections Officers, the Florida-Tactical Operations Group and 12 detention officers from Brazil.
The 40-hour course held at the County Coliseum will provide the 30 plus officers with lessons on: One Man Cell Extractions, Two-Man Tactics extractions, Riot/Civil Disturbance, and Hostage and Rescue in a Correctional Setting.
Both Sheriff’s Office Jail Facilities, Region VIII Academy Range and El Paso Coliseum will be used as training locations.
The different agencies participating in this course have made the completion of this training a requirement for their officers.
For the 12 officers from Brazil, the training serves as preparation for the upcoming Rio 2016 Olympics. UTEP students will assist with the translation with Brazilian team members.
