LCPD officers shot at with what is believed to be pellet gun; reward offered for information

Las Cruces Police said a trio of officers escaped injury Thursday evening after someone fired a pellet gun in their direction, striking one of them.

LCPD said the three officers were investigating an incident after drivers of two vehicles reported their windows were shattered. This was on the 1100 block of Commerce Drive.

At around 9:30 p.m., someone fire at least two rounds in the officers’ direction from what is believed to be a pellet gun, according to LCPD.

One of the officers was struck on the leg but he was not injured.

LCPD said it believes the shots came from higher ground a short distance away, possibly from or near the parking lot of a nearby business. No suspect information is available at this time but police are continuing to investigate the incident. The perpetrator could possibly face a fourth-degree felony charge of battery on a police officer.

Las Cruces Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that helps identify the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or send a tip by text message to CRIMES (274637), keyword LCTIPS.

The Crime Stoppers number and text messaging services are operational 24 hours a day and you do not have to give your name to collect a reward.
