Hundreds visit Vietnam war memorial at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery

Healing and honoring– that’s what hundreds have done over the past few days at a replica of the Vietnam War Memorial that has been on display at the Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

The memorial, which has been displayed in states across America, arrived in El Paso on Wednesday.

The wall also known as “The Wall that Heals” is a half-scale of the actual memorial in Washington D.C.

The memorial bears the name of the more than 58,000 service men that died in the Vietnam War.

The wall has been open 24 hours for visitors since Wednesday.

ABC-7 caught up with veterans who payed respect to friends they fought alongside with in the war.

They say visiting the memorial along with other veterans is also a healing process.

“Oh the first thing you do is cry. I feel they are true heroes and it’s good therapy to talk to other service members. They ask how you’re doing, share stories and memories,” said Tom Contreras, war veteran.

The memorial will be open until 4 p.m. Sunday.
