New County Sportspark fully open for play this weekend
The County of El Paso’s long awaited Sportspark renovation is finally finished.
It’s located at 1780 North Zaragoza in East El Paso, near Loop 375 and Montwood High School.
ABC-7 got a tour of the facility Friday, showing off some of the beautiful new softball fields just off the shiny new clubhouse, which features a full kitchen and viewing area for parents and fans.
Six fields were being used already, but the additional four fields are now ready for play beginning this weekend, giving the park 10 total. A grand opening celebration is scheduled for May 21.
Construction on the park started back in 2012. It was halted last year after Sunlight Enterprises, the original contractor, was removed in favor of Jordan Foster Construction.
Jordan Foster completed the project in about two months.
“I think we are all excited that the public is actually getting to use all of the park,” County of El Paso Engineer Melina Banuelos said. “We’ll be using the pro shop and concession a little later after the grand opening. But right now, in the short term, we’ll be using the fields at the very least and fans will be able to use this area of the park which has been closed for so many months.”
