Las Cruces police look into possible murder-suicide on city’s East Mesa

Las Cruces police are investigating a possible murder-suicide in east Las Cruces.

Police told the ABC-7 New Mexico Mobile Newsroom an 83-year-old man shot and killed his 82-year-old wife and then turned the gun on himself at their home on the 5900 block of Jornada Road.

The couple’s caregiver asked police to check on the couple because she had not heard from them in a week.

Police found the couple dead in the master bedroom about 11 a.m. Thursday.

Their identities will not be released pending notification of next of kin.

Detectives learned that both had health issues that required extensive medical attention. The incident appears to have occurred within the last few days.
