Chihuahuas fall in series opener at Fresno
FRESNO, Cal. – The Fresno Grizzlies hit three solo home runs and beat the El Paso Chihuahuas 4-2Thursdaynight at Chukchansi Park. El Paso pitching had allowed only eight home runs in the first 18 games of the season.
The Chihuahuas tookThursday’s first lead in the third inning on two-out RBI hits by Carlos Asuaje and Alex Dickerson. Trailing 2-0, Fresno then scored single runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to move ahead 4-2.
Grizzlies’ starter Asher Wojciechowski struck out nine Chihuahuas in seven innings of work and picked up his third career win against El Paso. Between Wojciechowski and the two relievers that followed him, Fresno pitching retired 16 of the final 17 Chihuahuas’ batters.
El Paso is now 3-2 on its current road trip.
