Detention hearing postponed for man allegedly linked to Socorro drug raids

A detention hearing for Luis Armando Baylon, arrested in connection with the seizure of drugs, money and weapons at a Socorro home, was postponed until Wednesday July 6th.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Anne T. Berton approved the postponement at the request of Miguel Villalba, the lawyer for the 55-year-old Baylon.

FBI agents arrested Baylon Monday and booked him the same day into the El Paso County Jail. He was jailed without a bond.

Baylon received the federal charge of possession with intent to distribute a kilo of cocaine. Friday, his family and lawyer declined to comment.

The investigation and raids on June 22nd included at least four other locations in Socorro and The Amigo Bar in San Elizario. More than 100 officers and agents executed search warrants across properties in the area.

FBI Special Agent in Charge in El Paso Dough Lindquist said the investigation revolved around a drug organization that operated primarily at a property on the 11500 block of La Fogata street.

Lindquist said the raid was a big success.

“We’ve got several weapons off the streets, we’ve got drugs, we seized money, so it’s been a good result for the area of Socorro,” Lindquist said.

Customs and Border Protection’s Laboratory Scientific Services and the Socorro Police Department assisted FBI with the investigation.

Investigators seized 26 weapons at the home, Lindquist said. “A lot of those were long guns and things that should not be out in the streets and we’re happy to get those off the streets,” he added.
