Celebration of Lights, Ice Skating and more in store for Holiday season

After years of construction delays, the “Celebration of Lights” will return to San Jacinto Plaza.

Scheduled for Saturday, December 3rd, there will be plenty of fun for the entire family with holiday activities, a parade with floats, music, and the lighting of El Paso Electric’s Holiday Tree.

ABC-7 will air the celebration live on air and online at KVIA.com.

Schedule:

4:30 PM First Armored Division Band 5:00 PM St. Anthony’s Seminary Franciscanos Choir 5:30 PM Holiday Lightning Ceremony 5:55 PM Celebration of Lights Parade Crews have already set up lights around San Jacinto Plaza, with many telling ABC-7 they’re excited to see what’s in store.

“We’ve been working on this for about a year, knowing that when we move back into San Jacinto it had to be special,” Dionne Mack, with the CIty of El Paso said.

Mack adds at the plaza alone, there will be 404,800 lights on 121 trees and plenty of holiday displays.

El Paso Live has also announced “WinterFest” which is scheduled to begin December 3rd and run through January 8th. The festival will include an outdoor ice skating rink located near the Plaza Theatre, Christmas lights, food, shopping and festivities.

“As San Jacinto Plaza once again lights up for the winter season, we wanted to enhance the downtown visitor’s experience and create a new holiday tradition,” Bryan Crowe, General Manager of Destination El Paso, said. “We are pleased to present WinterFest along with The Hospitals of Providence and Providence Children’s Hospital and look forward to welcoming guests to a new, ‘cooler’ downtown El Paso.”

The skating rink will be under construction in a week and will officially open December 3rd.

“The city has gone all out to get all new decorations and lights for San Jacinto Plaza, which is why El Paso Live thought this was the year to do the ice skating rink,” Ryan Lympus with Destination El Paso said.

The festival’s ice skating rink will cost $8 to skate. Discounts are available for military and children under five.

Skate tickets go on sale on November 23, 2016. For information on tickets, schedules and special festivities, click here.
