OPERATION NOEL 2016

KVIA is honored to once again help keep children warm this winter with Operation Noel, a non-profit organization. Funds are raised every year through the efforts of HUB International, Mattress Firm, and our “mini” telethon on ABC-7.

For nearly 80 years, Operation Noel has looked out for some of El Paso, Las Cruces and Borderland area’s neediest children.

The primary mission is to provide new winter coats to more than 20,000 children whose families cannot afford them. Because there is no overhead costs, and everything is done on a volunteer basis, 100 percent of donations go to these coats.

Each coat costs $13.50. The total cost is around $270,000, and that’s why we need the help of the community’s donations, both individual and corporate.

The charity’s main fundraising campaign is done throughout the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season, but donations are accepted year-round.

For many area children, Operation Noel is their only hope of getting a new winter coat.

December 1, 2016 was KVIA’s mini-telethon, with a goal to raise at least $180,000. Volunteers began taking donations before dawn, and will take them until the end of the day just before 11 p.m.

By 7 p.m. Thursday, $110,000 had been donated.

Some corporations that donated included:

Hunt Companies – $5,000 Mattress Firm – $5,000 United Way/Kids way – $2,500 The Forma Group – $500 El Paso Veterans & Riders Association – $150 Capital Bank – $1,500 Peter Piper Pizza – $10,000 Planet Fitness – $2,500

A big thanks to these companies, and all others who donated Thursday. A coat costs $13.50, but any donation is greatly appreciated.

We’d also like to thank Jack in the Box, Peter Piper Pizza, and Corner Bakery for feeding the volunteers throughout the day.

We’d also like to thank the volunteers who helped in the phone bank: including the El Paso High Swim Team, Destination El Paso, Montwood High Girls Softball Team, Montwood High Boys Baseball Team, El Dorado Student Council and Principal Advisory Board, North Face Co., and Mattress Firm.

Your time is greatly appreciated.
