EPPD on crash involving officers: ‘investigation continues’

The El Paso Police Department remains tight-lipped after two officers were hospitalized following a crash early Christmas morning.

A tweet posted Tuesday on the department’s Twitter account states, “Officers involved in weekend collision are recovering. Investigation continues.”

ABC-7 has reached out to the department’s public information officers for details on the investigation. No information on the cause of the wreck has been provided.

The crash happened in Northeast El Paso early Sunday at 12:42 a.m.

Police said the officers were in a patrol car when they crashed into an overpass pillar on the 2600 block of Chaffee Road, near Ft. Bliss Cemetery and the Humane Society.

Special Traffic Investigators were looking into the cause of the crash, police officials said Sunday.

One of the officers injured has been with El Paso Police for eight years. The other is a rookie.

The officers didn’t need to be extracted from the patrol car, police said.

The eight year veteran was hospitalized. The other officer was treated and released, police said Sunday.
