Man involved in police car chase identified

EL PASO, Texas – El Paso police arrested and charged a man after he allegedly attempted to escape from officers, stole a van, crashed it, and tried to flee from police again.

Police said they saw 30-year-old Mark Anthony Martinez walking into traffic in the 1600 block of Winslow Rd. on Tuesday.

When officers approached Martinez about the violation he began to run from them, authorities said.

Martinez allegedly stole a work van, crashed it into two parked cars and continued to drive it until it stopped working.

Police said Martinez got out and again tried to flee on foot. Police caught him after a brief pursuit.

Martinez was charged with evading arrest, theft over $2,500 – under $30,000. Martinez had outstanding warrants for unauthorized use of a vehicle and varole violation.

Martinez was booked into the El Paso County Jail with a $25,000 bond.
