UTEP wins second straight game after beating FAU in overtime
Winning two games in a row hardly constitutes a winning streak, but the Miners will take it.
UTEP improved to 4-13 on the year and can claim its first winning streak of the season after outlasting Florida Atlantic 66-65 in overtime Saturday night at the Don Haskins Center.
UTEP took a three-point lead with 12 seconds to play in the second half, before FAU answered with a Gerdarious Troutman three-pointer to tie the game.
The Miners then had a chance for a last-second shot to win it, but Dominic Artis just missed from downtown as the Miners were forced to play their second overtime game in three days.
UTEP found a way in overtime, thanks in large part to Omega Harris, who finished with a team-high 18 points.
The Miners held a 66-65 lead with about four seconds to go and had to throw the ball in from underneath their own basket. Trey Touchet caught the inbounds pass, and no one from FAU made a concerted effort to foul him.
Touchet then simply tossed the ball down the court as the buzzer sounded.
UTEP will try to make it three wins in a row on Saturday, Jan. 21 against a UTSA squad that beat the Miners just a couple weeks ago.
