NMSU tops CSU Bakersfield for 15th consecutive win

The Aggies shot less than 40-percent from the field and only connected on 3-14 three-pointers, but they still somehow managed to grind out a 63-58 victory over CSU Bakersfield Saturday night at the Pan American Center.

NMSU trailed by seven at the half, but rallied in the second stanza, outscoring the Roadrunners by 12 en route to a five-point win.

The Aggies, who lost to Bakersfield in last year’s WAC tournament final on a three at the buzzer, now stand alone as the only unbeaten team in WAC play this season with a 4-0 mark.

No NMSU player tallied more than 13 points, but the Aggies did have five players record at least eight points.

NMSU is now the proud owner of a 15-game winning streak, which is the third-longest active winning streak in men’s D-1 basketball behind only Gonzaga and Kansas.

The Aggies have a week to gather themselves after the tough game against the ‘Runners before UMKC comes to the Pan American Center on Jan. 21.

NMSU topped UMKC by 13 just a couple weeks before, so they have to feel good about their chances of running their winning streak to 16 games.
