Document: El Paso man killed guest because he feared for his life

The man accused of shooting and killing an “overnight guest” called 911 to report he had just killed his friend because he “feared for his life,” a complaint affidavit states.

Crimes Against Person officers responded to the shooting at 4269 Canterbury in West El Paso at about 6:30 pm Saturday, January 14, 2017.

47-year-old Frederick Clifton Stevens allegedly told officers arriving at the residence he shot 32-year-old Daniel Francisco Morua several times.

Stevens said he and Morua got into an argument which “escalated … causing him to fear for his life,” the document states.

When officers arrived at the home, Morua was already dead, police said.

Stevens, charged with murder, was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility under a $900,000 bond.
