UTEP loses in heartbreaking fashion at home to LA Tech

For once, UTEP found itself leading a big game most of the way early, but they were unable to seal the deal, as Louisiana Tech knocked off the Miners 62-61 at the Haskins Center Thursday night.

UTEP controlled much of the game in the first half, leading by six at the break. Louisiana Tech was only in the game thank to its three-point shooting ability.

The Bulldogs ended up with 11 three-pointers on the night, including a 4-4 performance by Erik McCree.

The Miners found themselves trailing after an early second half rally by Louisiana Tech, but they were able to make it a ball game late with a rally of their own.

UTEP trailed by one with just a few seconds to play and was able to get Dominic Artis a look at a three for the win, but Artis was unable to connect.

UTEP falls to 6-5 in conference play and 8-15 overall. The loss damages UTEP’s chances at getting a two or three-seed in the C-USA tournament.

Lousiana Tech is now 9-3 in conference play, trailing only Middle Tennessee State in the standings.

The Miners dropped both contests to the Bulldogs this season, including a 20-point loss back in January.
