AT&T outages take West El Paso offline

AT&T outages swept across West El Paso leaving some customers without internet access or data.

Joe Luna emailed ABC-7 to let us know he has been without cable and internet since Friday around 2 p.m., and said the lack of service was “completely unacceptable.”

“Not a single email or text message from AT&T giving an explanation and an update on resolution, and apologizing for this terrible inconvenience,” said Luna. “AT&T should treat customers with more respect.”

Downdetector.com reports technology service interruptions and outages. In the past 24 hours, they show more than 100 service outages reported.

Being plugged-in to the digital world is a vital part of our daily lives. University of Texas at El Paso freshman Antonia Taylor said she often struggles to connect to AT&T internet.

“I couldn’t do my home work,” said Taylor. “I cross my finger to see if it will actually work on my computer,” said Taylor.

AT&T told ABC 7 the area outages were not a result of any issues on their end.

“Due to a fiber cut by contractors doing work for another company, some of our customers on the west side of El Paso may be experiencing intermittent issues with their wire line service.”

The other company was Texas Gas Service. They took responsibility for the outage.

They said they are actively working to repair the issue, but do not have an estimated time as to when service will be restored.
