Shooting outside Northeast bar hospitalizes man

An arguments ended with a man shot in the head early Saturday morning outside a Northeast El Paso bar, police said.

Officers responded to a shots fired call in the parking lot of the IDK Bar, at 10110 McCombs St.

Police said two groups got into an argument inside the bar and went outside where the altercation escalated. Police said one man took out a gun and fired several rounds. He allegedly fired rounds at all three men in the other group, striking one in the head. That man was rushed to a local hospital. Police said the other two men were not injured.

Surveillance video ABC-7 obtained from a nearby grocery store appears to show the shooting outside IDK bar Friday night.

It shows a man grab what appears to be a crow bar out of his trunk then run out of frame. From a different camera angle a man fires a gun once. He then shouts, “you want another one?”

The man then shoots three more times before driving away.

The shooting has some who live in a trailer park behind the bar worried.

“I’m afraid a bullet can cross the wall and kill me,” one woman, who didn’t want to be identified told ABC-7.

She said hearing gunshots isn’t anything new for her. Less than 6 months ago, a man opened fire on three people at the bar.

The bar’s owner did not want to go on camera but said he can only control what his customers do once they leave the bar to a certain extent. He said his bar is not to blame and he was adamant a fight did not start while the people were inside.

The bar owner showed ABC-7 this surveillance video from inside the bar only minutes before the shooting, where he says people weren’t arguing.

Police are only describing the shooter as a Hispanic male. Anybody with information is asked to call the El Paso Police Department’s Gang Tip Line at (915) 212-GANG (4264); El Paso Police Department at (915) 832-4400; or Crime Stoppers of El Paso at (915) 566-TIPS (8477).
