“A Day Without a Woman” strike to be held Wednesday

Protests are expected across the nation on Wednesday as the organizers behind January’s “Women’s March on Washington” launch “A Day Without a Woman.”

Women across the country are expected to join a general strike coinciding with International Women’s Day. Organizers are also calling on women to wear red to signify love and sacrifice, and not to spend money as a way of showing their economic power.

Some businesses have decided to close for the day or give their female workers the day off. The event website has templates for “out of office” emails, and an employer letter. More than 60,000 had clicked on the letter template as of Tuesday afternoon.

“A Day Without a Woman” marks the first major action by the organizers of the nationwide marches held the day after President Donald Trump’s inauguration since that protest took place. President Trump did take note of International Women’s Day on twitter, asking his followers to join him in “honoring the critical role of women” in the United States and around the world.
