Pedestrian suffers serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle

UPDATE: El Paso Police confirmed a man was seriously injured when he cross the street in northeast El Paso intersection Saturday night.

Miguel Ortiz, 65, attempted to cross the 5800 block of Dyer, from east to west, just before 9 p.m.

At the same time, a Ford Fusion driven by Nancy Quidachay was northbound and hit Ortiz. Police said Ortiz did not cross in a controlled intersection and failed to give the right of way to the vehicle.

Ortiz was taken to University Medical Center with life threatening injuries.

PREVIOUS STORY: Emergency dispatch said a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle around 9 p.m. Saturday at Thomason Avenue and Dyer Street. Dispatchers said the pedestrian was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. No word yet on what may have caused the driver to hit the pedestrian or if the pedestrian was using a crosswalk. ABC-7 will update this article as soon as police release any more information.
