Affidavit: Surveillance footage, gang database led police to alleged gunman

The police department’s gang unit arrested a man accused of firing 20 rounds into a motel room.

Fidel Trevino, 32, is charged with three counts of Deadly Conduct.

Police say he fired the rounds into a motel room on the 6000 block of Dyer in Northeast El Paso. The shooting allegedly happened at 12:30 am April 27, 2017.

A 28-year-old woman, 30-year-old man, and six-year-old boy were inside the room at the time.

Court documents state Trevino allegedly fired 20 rounds from an AK-47 into the motel room from an alleyway.

Police were led to Trevino with the help of surveillance footage that recorded the shooting. Gang investigators were told the suspect in the footage matched the description of “Flaco,” a known gang member in the area.

A search of a gang database identifed “Flaco” as Trevino, a court document states.

Detectives met with Trevino, already in custody on a seperate case, and the suspect allegedly waived his Miranda Rights. Trevino told detectives he was looking for one of the victims staying at the motel to settle a dispute over money.

Trevino told detectives he noticed the victim’s SUV parked outside room #16 at the Studio and Rooms Motel.

Trevino allegedly walked to his vehicle, retrieved the AK-47, walked to the alleyway directly behind room 16 and opened fire, the document states.

One of the victims inside the motel room was struck by shrapnel as a result of the gunfire, the document further states.

Jail records show Trevino is out on bond.
