Man who slashed woman’s throat found guilty of Capital Murder

The man accused of stabbing three people in the Segundo Barrio, killing a mother in the process, was found guilty of Capital Murder.

A jury Friday convicted Jesse Vasquez for the 2013 stabbing death of 36-year-old Miriam Aguirre Salas.

Investigators said the killing happened inside an apartment on the 600 block of Florence near 4th Avenue.

In addition to Aguirre, Vasquez is also accused of attacking 32-year-old Enrique Contreras and 30-year-old Alma Rocio Dominguez.

A complaint affidavit obtained by ABC-7 states Vasquez slashed Aguirre’s throat and cut off several of Contreras’ fingers.

A fingerprint expert testified Vasquez’s fingerprints were found on several items inside Aguirre’s apartment, including a machete.

The victim’s family spoke with ABC-7 soon after the verdict was announced.

“I don’t know how to explain how we feel right now, but I just feel that justice has been served,” said Victoria Soria, the victim’s sister, “We have been waiting four years and it was worth the wait.”

At the time of the killing, the victim’s daughter was not told about her mother’s death at the hands of Vasquez because she was celebrating her 15th birthday.

“We did it, stayed strong. This is for my Mom,” said Selena Salas, the victim’s daughter.
