Man arrested for making terroristic threat; not a bank robbery, police say
Police took a man into custody at the GECU bank 7227 Viscount after the man allegedly made a terroristic threat.
It happened shortly after 10 am Friday.
GECU emailed ABC-7 the following statement: “An attempted robbery was made at our Viscount and Airway location and the suspect is in custody. The branch is open for business. All other branches also remain open during regular business hours. GECU works closely and proactively with law enforcement to prosecute crimes to the full extent of the law. GECU cannot comment on any further details of the investigation and any inquiries should be directed to law enforcement.”
Police said this is not a robbery investigation. The suspect has not been identified.
Under the Texas Penal Code, a person commits a “terroristic threat” offense if he threatens to commit any offense involving violence to any person or property with intent to:
cause a reaction of any type to his threat by an official or volunteer agency organized to deal with emergencies; place any person in fear of imminent serious bodily injury; prevent or interrupt the occupation or use of a building, room, place of assembly, place to which the public has access, place of employment or occupation, aircraft, automobile, or other form of conveyance, or other public place; cause impairment or interruption of public communications, public transportation, public water, gas, or power supply or other public service; place the public or a substantial group of the public in fear of serious bodily injury.
