Parkland introduces Eric Frontz as new head football coach

The Parkland Matadors officially introduced Eric Frontz as the school’s new head football coach at a ceremony at the school on Thursday.

Frontz was named interim head coach earlier in the year after former coach Josh Kirkland left for the head coaching job at Kyle Lehman in the Austin area.

Frontz had previously spent one season with the Matadors as defensive coordinator.

“I’m super excited. You know, these kids have done a great job,” said Frontz. “I’ve been here for a year. We had a coaching change, and I decided that it was best for the kids if I stepped up and took the job opening.”

Riverside fans may be familiar with Frontz, as he coached the Rangers for six seasons before his time at Parkland.

Frontz inherits a Parkland team that is coming off a solid season in which they finished 8-4 and even earned a bidistrict championship with a win in round one of the playoffs over Bowie.

Parkland’s star running back, Deion Hankins, also returns for his junior campaign after posting the second-most rushing yards in the state as a sophomore.

Frontz says he knows he has a ton of talent to work with and is hoping to make minor improvements to build upon last year’s success.

“The challenges for us are the same as they’ve been. Be consistent. Get stronger. You know, all of the things that we needed to do last year. We’re going to continue to roll,” he said.
