El Paso woman takes viral selfie while sister is in labor

An El Paso woman’s selfie is going viral. Kat Armendariz snapped a picture, as her sister Kimberly was going through labor in the background. Kat posted the photo to Imgur with a caption that read in part ‘SELFIE! While my sister is about to shove a baby out…’

The post as been viewed nearly 500,000 times and has been on national television like the ‘Today‘ show, the Daily Mail, Cosmopolitan, RT News, Mashable and many other outlets.

In an interview with Mashable Kat said she wasn’t trying to be rude, she said she originally took the photo to commemorate the occasion, but it just so happened that Kat pushed the ‘capture’ button while her sister really started to feel the contractions.

Kat told the Today show, that after being in labor for 15 hours, her sister gave birth to a healthy baby boy, Zayden. Zayden was born on June 29 at Sierra Providence East Medical Center.
