District 8 and Socorro Mayoral races to be decided

Voters in the borderland will decided who will be the next mayor of Socorro and who will become city representative for District 8.

Those running for Socorro mayor are: Elia Garcia, Joe Ramirez, Alejandro Garcia and Ivy Avalos.

District 8 will come down to Robert Cormell and Cissy Lizarraga.

Last month, Cormell received more than 42-percent of the vote, but that was not enough to avoid a runorr with Lizarraga.

Early voting numbers for the runoff election were very low. Only about 16-hundred people voted, out of the more than 39-thousand registered voters in the district. That makes the turnout only 4.3 percent.

The polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
