EPPD: Intoxicated suspect fired shots outside Whiskey Dicks, almost ran over officer
The Police Department’s Gang Unit arrested a man who allegedly assaulted a police officer while fleeing from the scene of a shots fired investigation, police officials said.
Police responded to the shots fired call from the Tipsy Tiger Bar on the 1500 block of George Dieter.
Witnesses told officers the shots were possibly fired from the area of the Whiskey Dicks bar and the officers went to that location to investigate, police said.
While checking the parking lot, the officers allegedly saw 29-year-old Bryant Romero walking to a parked car with a gun in his hand.
The officers ordered Romero to drop the gun, but he was able to get into a maroon Chrysler 300, police said.
As Romero was fleeing in the car, he almost struck one of the officers, officials added.
Officers from the Gang Unit were conducting an investigation of an unrelated shooting at the Mulligan’s Chopped House at 1810 George Dieter when they allegedly saw Romero speeding on Trawood in the maroon Chrysler 300.
Police said Romero was driving erratically and he crashed into a fire hydrant and trees at the 3000 block of Trawood.
Romero was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault, Evading Arrest with a vehicle, and DWI.
He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility under bonds totaling $47,000. Additional Charges are pending.
