The government said in a statement late Wednesday that federal police and marines caught Leticia Rodriguez, aka ‘Doña Lety, in the central state of Puebla.
The Yucatan Times reports Rodríguez, 48, served as a federal police officer until she allegedly entered the ranks of organized crime.
Rodriguez allegedly linked up with the Sinaloa cartel. The Yucatan Times reports authorities believe Rodriguez created a crime network that included corrupted police officers and public officials.
Mexico’s most popular beach destination has been hit by violence in recent months.
