Aaron Jones reflects on first NFL touchdown

Former UTEP running back Aaron Jones says that midway through the 2nd quarter in Saturday’s game against Washington, Packers quarterback Brett Hundley turned to him and told him he would score on the next play.

“Brett [Hundley] told me to get my head around quick and be looking for the ball out there. It’s coming to me, and it’s gonna be my touchdown.” said Jones. “And that’s exactly what happened.”

Jones took Hundley’s pass in for a five-yard score to give Green Bay a 14-3 lead in the 2nd quarter. The Packers went on to win 21-17.

Jones said that not only was the play call great, but the execution from the receivers helped him reach paydirt for the first time in his NFL career.

“The receivers did a great job of taking their men inside, and the linebacker who had me was nowhere to be found,” said Jones. “And I caught it and turned around and nobody was there – just the endzone.”

Jones finished the game with four catches for 11 yards and three carries for 14 yards.

He also credited starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers for setting an example for rookies in training camp.

“It all goes back to practice. He does the same thing in practice,” said Jones of Rodgers. “He’s the true definition of what you do in practice carries over to the game. And it’s just amazing to watch that.”

Jones and the Packers will play their third preseason game on Saturday, Aug. 26 at Denver.
