Former city Rep. Jan Sumrall has died

Former El Paso city Rep. Jan Sumrall has died.

Sumrall represented West El Paso for eight years on the El Paso City Council.

She was born in Akron, Ohio, and even lived in Great Britain.

According to her obituary, Sumrall loved to cook and volunteer, especially to help children and animals.

Sumrall is survived by her husband, Bob Sumrall, seven children and stepchildren, as well as 17 grandchildren.

“I arrived in El Paso in 1991 not knowing a single person, and the people of El Paso opened their hearts to me.” Jan Sumrall once said. “I was humbled that they trusted me to serve as their representative.”

Sumrall’s memorial service is at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Martin Funeral Home West,128 N. Resler Dr.

Sumrall was 74.
