High school football scores for Thursday, Sept. 7

Montwood 58, Midland 53 Final

The Montwood Rams improved to 2-0 with their second consecutive win over a team from outside El Paso after the Rams also topped Frenship in week one, 70-14. They continued their offensive showcase on the road at Midland Thursday behind eight touchdown passes from Andrew Fernandez. Fernandez threw five of those TD passes to Tyreese Andrus. He connected on two more to Tury Cepeda, while Daniel Aguilar hauled in another touchdown reception. Montwood led by as much as 24 in the 4th and held off a late charge to get the win.

Andress 13, Pebble Hills 34 Final

Pebble Hills showed it will be a force in its first season with a senior class after the Spartans beat Andress to move to 2-0 on the season. Andress jumped out to an early 7-0 lead and looked like they might tack on another score when Jonas Christmas of Pebble Hills intercepted a pass and took it back close to the Andress 20-yard line. Orlando Puig then threw a touchdown pass to Haredt Gonzalez to tie the game. The Spartans then took a lead they would never relinquish later in the first half on a Caleb Gerber rushing TD. Andress is now 1-1 after the loss.
