Update: Trucker checking tires led to serious crash on I-10

A man is still recovering after crashing his car into the back of a semi truck in West El Paso, Friday night.

Officials say 32-year-old Daniel Perez drove his car into the trailer of a semi truck around 8 p.m. on the Resler on-ramp to I-10 East.

The driver of the truck, 38-year-old Dmitrey Panker, had stopped to inspect his trailer tires after he was alerted to a possible issue by another motorist, according to officials.

Perez was taken to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Panker was not injured.

Special Traffic Investigators continue to investigate the crash.
