Chihuahuas fall to Memphis 3-1; Redbirds win PCL Championship

It was close, but it just wasn’t enough.

The El Paso Chihuahuas fell short of being back-to-back Pacific Coast League Champions.

Sunday night at Southwest University Park, the Memphis Redbirds defeated the Chihuahuas 3-1 in game 5 of the Pacific Coast League Championship Series.

As PCL champions, the Redbirds will move on to face the Durham Bulls for the Triple-A Championship.

The Chihuahua gave a valiant effort in the PCL Championship Series.

After losing the first two games in Memphis, the Chihuahuas rallied once they returned to El Paso, winning two games in a row to even up the series.

Sunday night, the Chihuahuas once again fell behind early.

Memphis would get on the board first folllowing a 2-run homerun from Patrick Wisdom in the top of the 5th.

Chihuahuas responded in the bottom of the 5th with a solo homerun from Chase D’arnaud.

That would be the only run of the night for the Chihuahuas.

The Redbirds would tack on another run in the 6th inning.

Despite the loss, it was still a fantastic season for the Chihuahuas.

Chihuahuas Manager Rod Barajas spoke with ABC-7 following the game, “Thank you to all the fans,” Barajas said, “Because of you all this is possible.”
