Ysleta Elementary holds TEA Distinction Designations rally

Tuesday, Ysleta Elementary school celebrated the six “distinction designations” recently awarded by the Texas Education Agency. Staff, faculty and students along with the district superintendent and YISD administrators were on hand for the rally. The school was recognized for its outstanding achievement during state testing last spring.

School officials told ABC-7 student’s scores not only met the minimal standard, but met mastery level and had greater than expected progress.

“We felt like our hard work paid off because everyone was working so hard,” fourth-grade dual language teacher Leticia Dominguez said. “We’re just happy that our students felt successful because that’s the best thing.”

Overall, six YISD campuses won every distinction designation available for their school type. Lancaster, Vista Hills, and Ysleta elementary schools earned the maximum six distinctions for primary grades, while Camino Real Middle School, Eastwood Knolls International School, and Ysleta High School won all seven distinctions available for secondary grades.

Officials say only 400 out of about 9,000 schools throughout the state of Texas earned all the designations.
