El Pasoans honor veterans at annual Northeast parade
Many gathered in northeast El Paso for the annual Veterans Day Parade Saturday.
Gisela Powers told ABC-7 she attends every year.
“We live right here, so every year we are right here,” Powers said.
The parade always includes the band, hot rods, kids, animals and of course, many American flags. But every person holding a flag has a story. For Powers, it’s remembering her husband.
“He was stationed in Germany, that’s when I met him,” Powers said. “Then we came back and he got sick and was disabled and later passed away. That was 25 years ago.”
Others, like Diego Soto, reflect on their time oversees.
“I was in Korea, Iraq, Kuwait,” Soto said.
He said watching the parade is heart wrenching.
“It brings a tear to my eye,” he said.
Powers described the parade as beautiful.
“I am an American citizen too, so yes, we are very proud that the soldiers take care of our country,” she said.
About one hundred people either participated or came to watch. The parade was put on by Flags Across America.
