El Paso teenagers start their own sneaker business ‘Kickpin’

Drew and Jamie Frank are not your ordinary teenagers.

Last December, the teenagers opened their own sneaker pop-up shop, Kickpin.

“We’ve always been into sneakers our whole lives,” said Jamie.

Drew, 14, is in charge of social media, while Jamie, 13, handles the goods. For the Frank Brothers, being a “sneakerhead” is a way of life. They have always looked for the “coolest kicks.”

The brothers told ABC-7 they spend their evenings shipping online orders. They take care of their homework when they close up their shop for the night.

“What makes a good sneaker is something that has hype around it, so something that is very hard to get and everyone wants,” said Drew.

Kickpin attracts customers who are looking for unique pairs of shoes, even brining in celebrities when they’re in town. The Frank brothers are using their success to help others too.

Last year, Drew donated all of his Bar Mitzvah money to buy 500 pairs of shoes for students at Beall Elementary school. This year, they established the Kickpin Foundation, partnering with Nike to give away 50 pairs of shoes to a local organization.

“That’s just what makes you happy at the end of the day,” said Drew.

The brothers are getting a lot of attention on social media. Whenever famous celebrities, like R&B sensation Khalid, are in town, they usually stop by Kickpin to buy shoes.

This year the Kickpin Foundation will donate shoes to the YWCA’s transitional living center.

Starting their own sneaker line is their dream, but for now, they are focusing on building their shop.

Customers pay anywhere between $100 and $1000 for a pair of sneakers. Their next pop-up shop will be December 16th and 17th.
