Texas, US retail gasoline prices up 3 cents to start 2018

Retail gasoline prices in Texas and across the country have started the new year on a more expensive note with retail prices up an average 3 cents per gallon.

AAA Texas on Thursday reported the average price at the pump statewide was $2.24 per gallon.

Nationwide retail gasoline prices rose to an average $2.49 per gallon. AAA officials say that the most expensive gasoline to start a new year since 2014, when prices topped $3 per gallon.

The association survey found San Antonio has the cheapest gasoline in Texas this week at an average $2.17 per gallon. Drivers in Midland faces the state’s highest gasoline prices at an average $2.50 per gallon.

AAA experts say high travel volumes over the recent holidays drove gasoline prices up.
