New event takes mini-golfing to downtown El Paso

The Downtown Management District is introducing a new event this month in downtown El Paso that’ll have some people brushing up on their miniature golfing skills.

The ‘Barstool Open’ is a nine-hole mini-golf tournament that will take place through out seven downtown bars on Saturday, January 27.

Participating bars include Circa 1963, Park Tavern, International, Craft & Social, EPIC Nightclub, The Speak Easy and Gray Dog.

“It’s designed to be a fun event,” said Rudy Vasquez, a marketing representative for the Downtown Management District.

The DMD is a municipal government focused on and delivers economic development initiatives, projects, programs and services that create a more vibrant, welcoming environment in downtown El Paso.

Teams will go from bar to bar to play each hole until all nine holes have been played.

The four-member teams will compete for prizes.

Vasquez said the tournament, which is partially sponsored by Topgolf, is meant to lure people who have not recently been downtown to enjoy the nightlife.

“This is our second year doing new events and they’re designed to highlight businesses downtown,” Vasquez said.

The golf tournament will give them a chance to explore some of the newest establishments.

Team registration is $60, but will increase to $80 on the day of the event.
