CBP officers arrest teenager who allegedly tried to smuggle meth and heroin into US

Customs and Border Protection officers Thursday seized 2.3 pounds of heroin and 1.8 pounds of methamphetamine allegedly strapped to the body of a teenager.

The seizure was made just before 7 p.m. when the 18-year-old man entered the El Paso Port of Entry from Mexico.

Officers allegedly discovered something wrapped around the man’s torso and the man allegedly admitted he was carrying drugs. A CBP drug sniffing dog confirmed the presence of drugs, CBP officials said.

The officers located two drug-filled bundles attached to the back and abdomen of the teen. The contents of the packages tested positive for heroin and methamphetamine, officials said.

CBP officers took custody of the man, a U.S. citizen, and turned him over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement HSI special agents to face charges associated with the failed drug smuggling attempt.

The man was not identified.
