Sheriff’s Office: Man found dead by Border Patrol agents died due to cold weather exposure

Border Patrol agents patrolling the border near the Fabens area found the body of an unresponsive man at about 10pm Thursday, a Border Patrol spokesperson said.

A unit with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office took over the investigation, the Border Patrol said.

The spokesperson was not able to confirm if the unresponsive man was an undocumented immigrant trying to enter the US illegally.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said its deputies responded to the 900 block of Mebus Road in Tornillo. Preliminary indications show he died of cold weather-related exposure,” the sheriff’s office said.

The man will be identified when his family is notified.
