Some New Mexico children knocked off Medicaid after glitch

State officials say “several glitches” have caused some children who were part of New Mexico’s foster care system or were adopted out of it to lose Medicaid coverage.

The Albuquerque Journal reports the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department and the state Human Services Department issued a joint statement attributing the inadvertent loss of coverage for some to glitches in a new computer system.

Human Services Department officials say 15 children have been identified as improperly deemed ineligible for Medicaid. Officials say the people affected by the problem will have their coverage restored and applied retroactively after the issue is fixed.

Children, Youth and Families Department officials say 4,000 letters will be sent to foster and adoptive families to alert them to the issue.
