211 Texas is receiving more calls in wake of El Paso mass shooting

It has been more than two months since the mass shooting at the Cielo Vista Walmart. A confidential statewide service still exists for those still suffering psychologically as a result of the attack.

The 211 Texas call center is available for anyone to call at any time. Call takers can connect you with mental health professionals. It’s available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“211 offers support on those that are getting or needing assistance. Getting them connected to those resources either by us providing them the information, or we also can also hand off the call to those health professionals,” resource manager Margie Resendez said.

Since the shooting, calls have gone up by about 10 percent, according to a resource manager at the center. Some of those calls have been from victims, family members of victims and those who witnessed the attack.

“We realize that you never know when these feelings are going to hit,” Resendez said. “It could be early morning, late afternoon, that’s okay.”
