Dad: Teen shot in New Mexico road rage still alive

The father of a New Mexico 16-year-old shot during a suspected road rage says the teen is still alive, contradicting Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office who said he had died.

KOB-TV in Albuquerque, New Mexico, reports Efrain Arzate Sr. said his son, Efrain Arzate Jr., remains on life support at an Albuquerque hospital.

Authorities say the younger Arzate was shot last week in Albuquerque

Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Felicia Maggard says authorities responding to reports of the shooting had found him sitting in the backseat of a Dodge Challenger and rushed him to a hospital in critical condition.

After the dad said the son was still alive, Maggard in a statement said the teen’s status is “brain dead” and the shooting is being investigated as a homicide.
