Major closure could tie up west side traffic
A complete closure scheduled on the west side this weekend could stall plans for commuters.
Starting Saturday at 7 a.m., Executive Center Boulevard will be closed from Paisano Drive to Rio Bravo Street while GO 10 crews repave the overpass and install lighting.
Texas Department of Transportation officials said the road is expected to reopen Monday at 5 a.m., but will close again the following weekend on April 14, at 7 a.m. to April 16, at 5 a.m.
The complete closure is part of the estimated $158 million Mesa Park Project, which would create a new interchange on Interstate 10 at Mesa Park Drive, north of Executive Center Boulevard near Montecillo.
When the GO 10 project is completed, TxDOT officials told ABC-7 that in place of an on-ramp at Executive Center Boulevard drivers will be routed onto a frontage road taking them to the new Mesa Park Drive interchange.
The west side closures don’t stop there.
Meanwhile, the Sunland Park Drive overpass will be closed for an estimated five months, according to transportation officials.
GO 10 crews will demolish the existing overpass to create a new one with more height clearance and more lanes of traffic.
During the construction period, two northbound lanes of traffic will be open on Sunland Park Drive taking drivers toward Mesa Street, and one southbound lane of traffic will be open.
TxDOT said the bulk of the construction at I-10 and Sunland Park Drive is expected to be complete in December.
