Final game for UTEP in the Diamond Head Classic ends in defeat to Boise State, 72-67

MGN

A trip to the Aloha State ended in defeat for UTEP as the Miners dropped another close game to Boise State, 72- 67.

The game was close throughout, but UTEP was simply unable to keep pace with the Broncos down the stretch.

Daryl Edwards, who led the Miners with 14 points, converted a layup in the paint that got the Miners within two points (67-65) with 54 seconds remaining in the game.

But on the following possession with two seconds remaining on the shot clock, Boise State's Derrick Alston  hit a baseline jumper in the paint underneath the basket with 25 seconds remaining in the contest.

That basket essentially clinched the victory for the Broncos.

The Miners were outrebounded 41-30, as Boise State crashed the glass with 13 offensive rebounds.

The Broncos scored 17 second-chance points, and outscored the Miners in the paint, 44 points to 32.

UTEP's record falls to 9-4 on the season.

The Miners leave Hawaii with just one win and two losses in the Diamond Head Classic.

UTEP first falling to Hawaii on Sunday, but then getting a much needed win against Ball State Monday night.

Next up for UTEP, the beginning of Conference USA play as the Miners will hit the road to take on Florida International Jan. 2 with tipoff set for 10 a.m. MT in Miami. Fla.
