Two athletes sign letters of intent at Montwood Wednesday

Two athletes signed their letters of intent Wednesday afternoon in front of a packed house at Montwood High School.

Geraldy Barron will continue her track career at UTEP. Barron is one of the top sprinters in the city and has excelled in the 100, 200, and multiple relays.

D’Ana Prieto signed with Dodge City Community College in Kansas. The all-district soccer soccer star said she plans to study engineering.

Barron says there were times she doubted she would reach this goal. But now she has.

“It was honestly really important for me because it was a dream for me to actually make it,” said Barron. “And I didn’t think I was going to, and to be able to have this opportunity means a lot.”

Prieto also said she didn’t think she would be a college soccer player one day. But there were others who thought she could do it.

“I never really though of playing college ball up until I met my high school coach. She was the one who was like, D’Ana, you have to,” said Prieto.
