Tax-free weekend for emergency supplies continues Sunday
The Texas comptroller dedicated this weekend as a sales tax holiday for emergency supplies.
On the weekends, some people take the time to pick up some supplies from the hardware store but a lot of shoppers and even store employees weren’t aware of the tax-free weekend for emergency supplies.
“I found out about it from a customer that called,” said Dan Maldonado, Home Depot store manager.
Maldonado told ABC-7 he had to look up sale tax holiday online.
“I asked some of the people here at the store, the head cashiers, people at the service desk and they hadn’t heard about that either so I googled it,” Maldonado said.
Several customers ABC-7 crews approached weren’t aware either.
“I didn’t know that. That’s very interesting,” said customer Juan Quintero.
The Texas comptroller wanted to make sure Texans had an opportunity to purchase certain items tax-free.
“Generators … that’s emergency preparedness, flashlights ladders,” Maldonado said.
Also on the list batteries, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and ice chests among other items.
“I know that there are some things that I need to change in my house so if it is tax free, why not?” Quintero said.
Customers and store managers both agree having a tax-free weekend for emergencies supplies
is helpful.
“I think it’s a great idea,” Quintero said.
“Right before school we have a tax-free weekend for that so emergency preparedness is also very important,” Maldonado said.
The tax-free weekend continues Sunday, April 29.
