EPPD: Police officer raped woman he met while responding to police call
Investigators arrested a former El Paso Police officer accused of sexually assaulting a woman he met while responding to a police call.
Police said William Alexander, 35, met the accuser after he responded and handled a police call involving the woman. Some time later, while off-duty, Alexander met the woman and sexually assaulted her, police said.
Police officers at a hospital investigating an unrelated matter were informed of the assault by the accuser, who had arrived there for treatment.
The Department’s Internal Affairs and Special Investigations (SIU) units launched separate investigations. While the case was under investigation, Alexander resigned in lieu of termination, police said.
On the evening of May 15, 2018, Alexander was arrested outside his residence by SIU detectives. Alexander was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility for Sexual Assault under a $7,500 bond.
Police officials said Alexander was a nine-year veteran of the El Paso Police Department assigned to the Central Regional Command Center.
