TTUHSC Graduation Profile: Ashley Hamilton
Ashley Hamilton will be graduating from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at El Paso with a master’s degree in biomedical sciences. In the future she hopes to go on to medical school, become a physician, and serve her community here in El Paso.
“There’s not very much access to health care especially being that it’s a border city and we have a lot of people come from Juarez, Mexico. So being able to have the privilege to practice out here would be an honor,” says Hamilton.
In the past two years at TTUHSC she has been able to do research on deadly diseases such as HIV.
“I actually was able to work with HIV. So, I mean infectious diseases has always been real interesting to me. I feel like it’s that edge that you get knowing it’s such a dangerous disease, but you know you have the ability to work with it,” says Hamilton.
She still has a year before she can begin medical school, So in the meantime she hopes to work at one of the labs in the college. She says that her experience at TTUHSC has more than adequately prepared her for medical school.
“Especially it being a master’s in biomedical sciences it helped me build a strong science foundation to help me prepare for what’s gonna come in medical school eventually as well.”
