Frozen burritos recalled

A food production company is recalling 50,706 pounds of frozen breakfast burritos out of concern that they may be contaminated with “extraneous materials.”

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection announced the recall in a news release May 31.

Ruiz Food Products Inc. decided to recall its line of El Monterey Signature Burritos in the egg, sausage, cheese and potato varieties, after they received complaints from customers who were finding semi-rigid pieces of plastic in the food item.

The frozen cook and serve breakfast burritos were produced on March 3, 2018 and were sold in 3.38-lb. plastic wrapped packages containing 12 count, 4.5-ounce individually wrapped frozen burritos.

The lot codes in question are 18062 and 18063, and have a “best if used” date of 3/3/2019 or 3/4/2019.

There have been no reports of illness or injury due to the contaminated burritos.
