Final N.M. Primary results: Stewart leads sheriff race, Grisham nominated for governor

The New Mexico Secretary of State’s office has posted the final results for Tuesday’s primary election.

In Doña Ana County, with 120 out of 120 precincts reporting final results, democrat Kim Kristine Stewart had a the ultimate lead in the sheriff’s race when the numbers became final, just after midnight. Former undersheriff Eddie Lerma was second, followed by incumbent Enrique “Kiki” Vigil for the democratic nomination to be sheriff.

Stewart will face republican Todd Garrison, who is running unopposed in November’s election.

Democratic nomination for Doña Ana County Sheriff (as of midnight)

Kim Kristine Stewart (D) – 31.71% – 3,797 Edward Eddie Lerma (D) – 28.10% – 3,365 Enrique “Kiki” Vigil (D) – 26.16% – 3,132 Carlos Preciado (D) – 7.98% – 956 Larry Anthony Roybal (D) – 6.05% – 724

Statewide, Congresswoman Michelle Lujan Grisham won the Democratic nomination for governor. She will face Congressman Steve Pearce, who ran unopposed for the Republican nomination.

Governor (as of midnight)

Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) – 67% – 112,568 Jeff Apodaca (D) – 22% – 37,306 Joseph Cervantes (D) – 19% – 19,171

Democrat Xochitl Torres Small (with 82.45% of democratic votes) will face Republican Yvette Herrell (with 46.79% of republican votes) in the race for U.S. District 2 to replace Steve Pearce.
